“Real Men Wear Black” at least that’s what Breitling is marketing. Breitling has introduced a dynamic variation of its imposing Super Avenger chronograph. The Breitling Super Avenger Blacksteel Chronograph features a 48mm stainless steel case whose stealthy black surface is the result of a highly durable carbon nitride treatment. The dial has a satin black surface and sub-dials with vertically striated motifs showcasing brilliant red accents on the hands, 30-minute chronograph counter, and the tachymeter rehaut. A unidirectional rotating bezel with a luminous dot assures security and safety in monitoring critical diving intervals.

The Swiss Watch Boutique reported recently that as the financial crisis continues to play out in uncertain ways, the Swiss watchmaking industry is bracing for its first significant slowdown in many years. The wealthy bankers who scooped up Swiss watches, like Omega, Rolex, and IWC may not be in a position to sustain the watch business. Already this year, shares in Swatch Group, the world’s largest watchmaker, have plunged nearly 40 percent.

But unlike the 1970s and 1980s, experts predict single digit growth for the industry rather than outright retraction. Strong demand in emerging markets, such as India, Russia, and China, are expected to help soften the impact of the worst global financial mess since the Great Depression.

Wyler Genève has signed a new licensing agreement to produce the official watch of the Italian national football team, almost 75 years after the pioneering Italian Wyler distributor Innocente Binda put the company’s watches on the wrists of the Squadra Azzurra for the 1934 World Cup.
